Stories

Stories is a series where I explore the visual narratives that shape our cultural imagination — from politics and media to social anxieties and collective myths. Rather than simply documenting events or icons, I use imagery to open a space where familiar scenes become visual prompts for reflection, critique, and emotional resonance.

About the work

Stories is a body of work in which Furio Torracchi engages with charged, culturally resonant themes — politics, crime, sexuality, and danger — through a lens that is both critical and satirical. The imagery on this page positions familiar historical and contemporary moments within a visual structure that invites reflection rather than simple recognition. By juxtaposing events and motifs such as elections, conflict, and societal anxieties, Torracchi underscores how media-laden narratives shape collective imagination and emotional response.

Rather than replicating news imagery, Stories reframes these motifs as visual prompts, exposing the coded ways in which power, vulnerability, and spectacle operate within public discourse. The series encourages viewers to consider not just what stories are told, but how they are constructed — and how satire can serve as a tool for both critique and revelation. In doing so, Torracchi situates Stories within a broader contemporary practice that questions the authority of visual narratives and highlights the porous boundary between reality and representation
